Rio Rancho has commenced construction on a new fire station near Cabezon Boulevard and Unser Boulevard, aiming to bolster emergency response capabilities in the city’s expanding southern neighborhoods.
The city acquired the land for the station through a land swap with Rio Rancho Public Schools. Once completed, the facility will house 15 new firefighter and EMT positions, along with a fire truck and an ambulance. This addition is expected to significantly reduce response times in the area, which has been primarily served by Fire Station 1 until now.
The project is funded by a $13 million combination of city and state resources. City officials emphasize that the new station is a proactive measure to meet the needs of Rio Rancho’s growing population and to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
